Artgos continues until Saturday 15th December, which will be the last day to purchase your unique artist multiples. On Saturday, Alicia Talikowska and Nicolar Bell will be running a workshop at theartmarket between 12 and 5 pm. Alicia and Nicolar have run Re-Toyed Trash workshops before at theartmarket and at different festivals throughout the summer.
With templates, visitors can make their own soft multiples, or choose to customise the patterns to make something a bit different. The cost to participate will be £3 each, but all that you need to make a plush creation will be provided. Expect: Colourful fabric*, needles, thread, googly eyes, fluff, scissors and templates. Children under 6 to be accompanied by an adult.

* We use mainly recycled and donated fabrics in our workshops

On Thursday we had a late night opening where Janis Rafailidou performed ‘Sunday Family Dinner’, part of her ongoing project project exploring cross cultural exchange across Leeds.

Visitors could purchase one of Janis’ ‘Family Dinner Placemats: My Parents Conspiracy Theory’ and enter a dialogue of her parents dinner table discussion as Janis serves some real Greek cuisine. Tasty wraps were enjoyed by all visitors.

There was an extraordinary amount of people at the preview night. I’ve not seen the Merrion Market so packed before! The Artgos team were kept busy with lots of purchases and sold out of some of the multiples, due to popular demand.

Artgos continues until Saturday 15th December, so come down and buy some rather unique Christmas presents while stocks last. We are having another late night this week, on Thursday join us for a meal with the artist Janis Rafailidou.

This week we have been busy getting theartmarket ready for Artgos. A combination of hanging, laminating, spraypainting and cleaning means that the space is predominantly red, yellow, white and sparkly.

Our preview night is tomorrow night, Monday 3rd December 5 – 7pm, with live art from Fresh Meat. Come down and see the fantastic range of artist’s multiples and enjoy some mulled wine.

*Artists’ multiples are defined as a work that has been conceived from the beginning to exist in quantity. They are usually three-dimensional objects that re-invent mass-produced items and manufacturing processes, and can cost significantly less than one-off sculptures or paintings. Multiples can be humorous, political or just plain beautiful, and are a great introduction to art collecting, as work by well-known ‘names’ can be picked up very reasonably. They also make intriguing alternative Christmas gifts.

Artsparkle is an artist-led organisation formed in Leeds in 2003 by Emma Bolland, Pippa Hale, Kerry Harker, Jon Wakeman and Karen Watson, with the aim of exploring the contemporary art market through the medium of artists’ multiples. Opportunities for artists to make new work are central to the project, which also aims to raise the profile of artist-led activity. Artsparkle organises a rolling programme of events, commissions and exhibitions, and collaborate with other multiples-focused organisations and groups in the UK, Europe and beyond.

Theartmarket is a hub of creative activity in Leeds City Centre based in the Merrion Market since December 2006 inviting a large community of artists, curators, press, and others involved in the art sector as well as an increasing footfall of audience members to a range of art activities including hands on workshops. They also have a very good relationship with other members of the Market.
